| Abstract | A language survey was conducted in Merauke Subdistrict of Papua, Indonesia, to determine what languages are spoken in each village, as well as the internal dialectology and language vitality of each of the languages encountered. Data was gathered through the use of wordlists and sociolinguistic questionnaires, as well as informal observation. The results indicate that the team encountered six languages: Marind, Morori, Ngkâlmpw Kanum, Sota Kanum, Smärky Kanum, and Yei. Language development possibilities are the strongest for the Marind and Yei languages, but further survey is needed in the wider area to get a more complete picture of the situation of these languages. |
