What is a mimeograph stencil?

A mimeograph stencil is used with several printing devices, including mimeograph machines and silk-screen printers .

A mimeograph stencil is a sheet of strong tissue paper saturated or coated with wax. A text or design is cut into the stencil so that ink can be forced through the stencil onto a surface to be printed.
