Selecting training methods

Prerequisites

Here are the prerequisites for selecting training methods for any training activity:

Guidelines

Here are some guidelines to follow when you select training methods:

  • Choose training methods suited to the training context.
  • Combine principles of andragogy with a variety of teaching methods that allow for optimal training.
  • Determine which training methods are most familiar to the trainees.

    Caution:

You may find that certain Western training methods are not well received in a non-Western context.

    Tip:

Among many rural people, teaching methods which include demonstration, role-playing, and modeling are the most effective.

  • Review the training activity objectives to make sure the training method is appropriate for achieving the objectives.
