Preparing fabric for silk-screen printing

Introduction

Some preparation is necessary before you begin any fabric-printing project using a silk-screen printer. You must be well prepared to keep printing without delays and interruptions once you begin.

See:

How to print on fabric with a silk-screen printer or T-shirt printing demonstration for all the steps involved in printing on fabric.

Steps
Follow these steps to prepare fabric for silk-screen printing:

  1. Place cardboard pieces under each piece of fabric so that the ink will not bleed through. For T-shirts, place cardboard inside the T-shirts.
  2. Position the cardboard centrally so the design will be straight and well-placed.
  3. Stack fabric pieces or T-shirts so they are ready to print.
    Caution:

There is no time for delay between printings. The ink will dry and ruin the screen if you wait too long to use it.
