Developing learner assessing tools and materials

by Carole P. Spaeth

Introduction

It is important to test the learners' ability to apply the skills they have been learning in the literacy lessons. There are different ways to assess how well the learners have grasped the concepts. Some instructional programs prefer certain kinds of assessing, so you should follow the recommendations of the program you choose to use. It is helpful to prepare assessment materials at the same time that you develop the literacy materials.

Prerequisites

Here is a prerequisite for developing learner assessment tools and materials:

Steps
Follow these steps to develop learner assessing tools and materials:

  1. Prepare tests for assessing reading and writing skills.
  2. Prepare other tests as needed.

These could include things such as:

    • pre-test to determine needs
    • auditory discrimination
    • math
