Reference

Walton, Janice. 1980. "Literacy survey." Notes on Literacy.

Summary

A literacy survey is one tool that can be used to develop a literacy program on the local level. Includes a list of possible survey questions for various groups surveyed. Includes

  • regional officials
  • local community officials, and
  • community individuals (literate and nonliterate).
Evaluation

Provides a good starting point for finding out the specific needs of a community. Concludes that it seems "that the dividends of knowing versus guessing as to what type of program could be planned is well worth the effort expended in conducting the survey."
