Malone, Dennis. 1986d. "Roles in literacy learning: A new perspective." READ: Promoting Literacy and Literature. Interest level: lay specialist.

Summary

Growing body of research on how children become literate is causing many to reevaluate and change traditional ways and environments of teaching reading and writing. Children make sense of new learning, including reading and writing, when they relate it to what they know and are familiar with. Authors of various presentations in book respect the child as a learner, and show how the roles of parent, teacher, administrator, and researcher interact as the child becomes literate.
