Stage 2 guidelines for speaking: Vocabulary

 

Objectives
 

Here are some vocabulary objectives for Stage 2 for speaking:

 
  • To learn words that will help you participate in common social situations
  • To learn words on topics of interest to people in the society, such as:

    • Sports or entertainment
    • Health
    • Family
    • Work
  • To learn words related to your personal history and interests:

    • Job
    • Nationality, home town, or region
    • Family
    • Things you do in your spare time
    • Special interests
  • To learn basic vocabulary connected with your work
Strategies
 

Here are some vocabulary strategies for Stage 2 guidelines for speaking:

 
    Review Listen repeatedly to texts in your Audio Archive that have vocabulary you want to learn to say. Practice Use role-play techniques with a language associate (LA) to practice what to say in common social situations. Selective Attention Record a LA talking to you about a topic of interest in the community. Review vocabulary you do not know, then try to bring up the subject with as many people as you can. Tracking Track the speaker when listening to dialogues or texts.
