Stage 2 guidelines for speaking: Cultural framework

 

Objectives
 

Here are some cultural framework objectives for Stage 2 speaking:

 
  • To understand how people relate to their environment and the effect this has on them, on their interactions, and on their actions
  • To understand the society and how people relate to each other on the basis of their place in the society. As your understanding grows, apply these insights in your interactions and your speech
  • To understand the social situations in everyday life
Strategies
 

Here are some cultural framework strategies for Stage 2 guidelines for speaking:

 
  • Review

    Review insights gained through listening and reading and incorporate them into your speech.

  • Analysis

    Analyze social situations of everyday life and how people act in them. Identify typical scripts and variations of scripts based on differences in social relationships among participants.

  • Practice

    Use role play techniques to practice applying your insights into social relationships and scripts appropriately.

  • Hypothesis testing

    When you form a hypothesis about an important aspect of the social structure and how it is reflected in people's behavior, check it out with a friend or language associate.
