    To extend comprehension of different registers: how people talk to family, friends, strangers, merchants, employees, and people of different ages and social status

Strategies

  • Analysis

    Ask a language associate or teacher about distinctions and note the differences.

  • Practice

    Set up practice techniques with conversations or short exchanges between different kinds of people so you can hear different registers of vocabulary and forms.

  • Selective attention

    Pay attention to different varieties.
