To strive for a basic recognition vocabulary of about 1000 high-frequency items, including those with practical survival value, such as menus, timetables, maps, schedules and signs

• Practice

  Follow up on some listening comprehension techniques by using written representations (either the orthography or IPA).

• Memory

  Use association, grouping, pictures mnemonics, typing, or copying out.
