• To recognize 1000 vocabulary words in the following areas:

  • Words that refer to people
  • Items used by people
  • Places people go
  • Common substances
  • Words found in nature
  • Time
  • Descriptions of people and objects
  • Things that happen to people and objects
  • Actions of people and animals

Here are some vocabulary strategies for Stage 1 guidelines for listening:

Analysis Keep lists of different categories of vocabulary and look for relationships among them. Planning Plan your comprehension techniques to include the various categories of words listed in objectives. Practice Concentrate on the meaning of the words when doing the activities. Inferencing Use physical context to help you understand the meanings of words.
